Morag Muego - artist's statement
Existence and identity absorb me and in my work, I try to explore human experience through both figurative and abstract approaches.
ideas and influences
I make both paintings and prints. The prints generally come from drawing and are very graphic. They allow me to study aspects of personality in a direct way.
Some of my painting, however, has recently developed more towards abstraction. With few or no figurative elements to subvert the meanings, I use colour and line instead to carry my ideas about innocence, relationships and shared dreams.
The spaces are often ambiguous and contain simple shapes and motifs placed on broad colour fields, to suggest and evoke different states of mind.
I relate to art and writing that deal with perceptions of humanity, because they give insights and a sense of historical perspective and continuity which helps to inform my own world view.
